Being Different

by See-ming Lee
Diversity, friends, and kindness.

Text

When you’re different, you try not to stand out so much. So you learned the art of pretending to be everyone else.

But that doesn’t mean that you are the same as everyone else.

When your act is convincing enough, most people will never know the real you.

But it doesn’t mean that the need to adapt to everyone else is easy and not painful.

It’s never easy to have to live a life that’s not yours just to avoid the unnecessary hate and pain.

But it’s also why when you’re in the company of people who don’t care, you’ll always find freedom.

Kindness is the highest form of intelligence because it allows everyone to be themselves.

It’s why I have very few closed friends because I can simply be myself when I’m with them.
