“Eat Better, Live Better.” is the philosophy of Hendersons, a vegetarian and vegan restaurant in Edinburgh.
I am not vegetarian, so I don’t intentionally seek out these restaurants when I dine out. It caught my eye mostly because it was included in the Michelin Guide, and I know that my aunt loves organic food.
Hendersons has a rich history dating back to 1962 when it was founded by Janet Henderson. Originally established as a shop selling organic produce from her farm, the restaurant quickly became a pioneer in vegetarian cuisine in Scotland.
After closing its original location in 2020 due to the pandemic, the restaurant was revitalized by Barrie Henderson, Janet’s grandson, who opened the new venue in October 2021. This new establishment continues the family legacy while introducing modern elements to the dining experience.
I went to the restaurant with my family during my month-long tour in Europe earlier this summer. Trying to decide what to eat is always difficult, and we opted to order everything on the menu except the mains. This is how I prefer to eat — family style, so we got to try many dishes. All of the dishes are very good.
