Facebook recently reminded me of a new year card I created 14 years ago (2010). I have always loved the simplicity of it. It is pure Bauhaus, with typographic elements and forms that resemble confetti. “Type as image” has always been an important idea that runs through my art education.
In 2021, I updated it to match RoyaleAPI's color scheme and posted it as the holiday card. Recently, I’ve been experimenting with a muted blue background that complements my brand colors. As a result, I made a revised version of the card with the original design.
The brand colors of SML represent all colors, similar to the rainbow in nature, as printing technologies using CMY can produce any color.
As a side note, the K in CMYK represents black and is added because natural pigments cannot create a pure black when mixed with CMY. Additionally, using three colors on a print job can cause excessive ink coverage, which is why K was introduced in 4-color technology. However, if you have perfect CMY pigments that don't cause coverage issues, using K is largely unnecessary.
