Birthday 2025. Lunch for three.
Mosu Hong Kong, 2025

For my birthday this year, I finally made it to Mosu Hong Kong (@mosuhongkong), a restaurant that I’ve been wanting to visit for more than a year.

The restaurant was founded by Chef Anh Sung-jae. After its 2015 San Francisco debut, Mosu relocated to Seoul in 2017, where it earned three Michelin stars. The Hong Kong outpost, nestled in the M+ Museum Tower, opened its doors in 2022.

I had the lunch tasting menu, and ordered their signature supplement: the ember roasted acorn noodle. If you’ve seen the Culinary Wars on Netflix, you would have seen this dish, where truffles were shaved very generously on top of the black noodles!

My personal favorite of the meal was the Olive & Doenjang Tart. It was barely 2.5 cm (1 inch) in diameter but it delivered an explosive burst of flavor.

The other highlight for me was the rice cooked in cast iron pot. The unfinished product was first presented to us between courses, then served with the short rib course. Besides Gosari, it was mixed with other ingredients to make a stunning rice dish fused with mouth-watering rich flavors.

Over all, a very delightful meal — served in a perfectly laid back atmosphere with attentive and knowledgeable staff. Recommended!

  • Olive & Doenjang Tart
  • Shrimp Roll
  • Bigfin Squid in Cold Broth
  • Tilefish, corn, black garlic
  • Jeju pork, anchovy, pineapple
  • Korean “galbi” short rib
  • Rice cooked in cast iron pot
  • Ember roaster acorn noodle (supplement)
  • Ginseng Sherbet
  • Dashima Basque Burnt Cheesecake
  • Cookie with Mint

P.S. My birthday was Sept 25. The meal was postponed due to weather in Hong Kong.
