A week before my birthday, my dad asked me to book a table for Petrus. I told my dad that it’s not a place I would want to go for my birthday. “It’s not for you — it’s for mom’s 50th Wedding Anniversary.” Oh, but of course, gladly.
This was originally a lunch for three. My sister lives in LA, so she wouldn’t be Hong Kong. A week before lunch, I told my sister about it over messages. Shortly after, she asked, “Can you keep a secret?” Of course I can.
“I’m gonna do something crazy — I will fly in on Sunday morning to join you for lunch and then leave Hong Kong at midnight on the same day.”
Wtf?! She felt that this is something very special and she didn’t want to miss it. She booked a last minute ticket and arrived in Hong Kong at 7am, and joined us for lunch at noon.
The last time I had been to Petrus was when I was a teenager. I haven’t been here forever because sneakers and strict dress codes really don’t mix — but I’m glad that unlike thirty years ago, they no longer require jackets.
Food was decent, though the highlight of the meal was definitely the salad and the souffle. The corkscrew amuse made an impression. In Hong Kong, food is generally good everywhere, and most of the time, you’re paying more for the service and hospitality — which Petrus does deliver.
My dad and I both had the 5-course National Day Lunch Menu (1488 HKD, 190 USD). My mom and my sister had the three-course lunch (788 HKD, 102 USD). Petrus made us a small cake in the form of a book for the occasion. Thank you!
